BRITTON MIDDLE SCHOOL NEW STUDENT UNION BUILDING & ADMINISTRATION MODERNIZATION
MORGAN HILL, CA

The design concept emphasized an active visual connection to the community, bridging the school and community as shared assets and contributors to one another. The new Student Union was located on a highly visible corner of the site at the intersection of two main roads on the northern edge of downtown, becoming a new gateway to downtown Morgan Hill. The design responded with a highly visible, “on-display” interior that remains active throughout the day, showcasing the educational environment.

The Media Center on the second floor and the double-height café space are interconnected by a feature study pod that provides visual activity and a strong connection to the community. The administration renovation served as a counterbalance to the Student Union design, acting as a new gateway for the school community while presenting the campus’s new identity to the public. This portion of the project retrofitted administrative services and student support spaces into a traditional classroom wing building.
