BRITTON MIDDLE SCHOOL NEW STUDENT UNION BUILDING & ADMINISTRATION MODERNIZATION
MORGAN HILL, CA

The design concept is an active visual connection to the community, bridging school and community as an asset and contributor to each other. The New Student Union is located on a highly visible corner of the site on intersection of two main roads on northern edge of downtown, becoming a new "gateway" to downtown Morgan Hill. The design reacts with a visible "on display" interior space that will remain active throughout the day, showcasing the educational environment. The Media Center on the second floor and the double height Cafe space are interconnected with a feature study pod that provides visual activity and connection to the community. The Administration renovation is the counter balance to the SU design, as it is a new gateway for the school community and displays the new identity of the school campus to the public. This is a retrofit of Administrative services and student support spaces into the traditional classroom wing building.
